-lastly the computer system that they changed to get lightening lane (formerly fast pass) did not work. As a result you can only get on one or two rides. Not worth it.
we had been before and separation between Disney and others is closing. Many of the small things that made it so smooth and easy to go there are disappearing. Disney prices itself at a premium but seems to be cutting corners now on the product.
the food has certainly regressed. hot dogs, burgers, chicken strips are about it unless you can get a reservation at a better restaurant.
the biggest thing for little ones, meeting the characters, is gone. luckily our seven year old doesn’t know he missed this. the characters appear some. we had 1-2 sighting per day. At this point it really seems more like a family level theme park that has rights to have disney picture up.
im not sure why they bothered with a reservation system, the parks were crowded. if you are letting everyone in why bother with reservations.
we stayed at French Quarter which was smaller and quint. that was nice. Once again, food was very limited. you can go to Disney springs but an hour to get there, hour to eat, hour to get back, it truly is a 3 hour journey to do that.
in the end it wasn’t bad, but it certainly wasn’t worth the cost.
to a ten year old and younger it is still magic. but i see no reason for older families to attend. it was double the cost of a typical vacation, and except for what our 7 year saw in his young eyes, Disney did not return that value.
in short if you have a child between 5-8 years old consider taking them. just know it is not what it used to be. outside of that, i would choose another venue,
We went to Disney World Hollywood Studios on Friday and Universal Studios on Saturday.
Disney World
Everyone was miserable and rude, staff and visitors. The lines were unreasonably long. 4 hour wait to go on the new Star Wars ride. Too few places to eat. Garbage overflowing every where. No where to sit. Too expensive, $3.50 for a bottle of water. Genie + worked only part of the time. We arrived at 8am and left by 2:30pm. We rode 3 rides, were starving (no place to sit and eat) and had enough.
Universal Studios
We had a blast. People were happy. There were a lot of people but we were not piled on top of each other. There were plenty of places to sit and lots of options for food. It was clean. There were lines but none any place as long as the ones at Disney. We arrived at 8am and left at 9pm. We rode all of the rides we wanted. Saw the Christmas parade, fireworks, Hogwart’s castle light show and water show. Ate delicious real food (not cheap but not Disney prices) and snacks. It was wonderful and we will be back.
Tickets cost about the same except that the Disney World tickets were for 1 park and the Universal Studios was a park hopper for both parks.
Guests are also NOT informed that MOST of the “family affordable” sit down restaurants in the Magic Kingdom actually close 2 FULL HOURS prior to the fireworks. We walked from Tomorrowland at around 5:30 to have dinner at Columbia Harbour House on the other side of the park. A lady standing at the entrance turned us away because it had already closed. She sent us to Pinochhio’s Village House, where we were also turned away because it was closed as well. He sent us to Sleepy Hollow Restaurant, where we were also turned away. We finally arrived in Adventureland at Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Cafe just in time to be told that only online orders were being filled. 30 minutes later, after learning how to do that, we finally sat, exhausted, disappointed, and angry with a hamburger to eat our dinner.
In short, it was an expensive and NOT SO VERY MAGICAL day for our family. We expected better from Disney.
